I trained as a film maker and specialised in set design and decoration.
Working on low budget productions meant finding creative solutions by resourceful use of materials - often scrap materials - and strong use of colour to create a particular atmosphere. I love using reclaimed and “junk” materials because they’ve already got a story to tell and a whole string of associations and triggers for the imagination.
Later I worked as an interior designer and scenic painter, and became fascinated by the way people are affected by the space they occupy, and how different environments affect mood.
A lot of my large-scale work is about creating a cinematic atmosphere, taking the viewer on a journey of the imagination and recalling the sense of wonder and mystery that we have as children.
